DIY Watercolor Placemats

29.08.17 | Ashley | No Comments

DIY Watercolor PlacematsDIY Watercolor PlacematsThe autumn breezes might be blowing in and the smell of pumpkin spice might be filling the air but summer isn’t over just yet! You still have time to make these awesome (and easy!) DIY watercolor placemats to set your table for any upcoming labor day or summer barbecues and events!

Not only do I love how simple this project is, but I love the artistic look they have (with ZERO effort) and the fun pop of color they’ll give to a table too! You can whip up a set of these within an hour and still have time to finish all of those other things on your to-do list! (Although they might not be as fun!)

DIY Watercolor PlacematsHere’s what you’ll need to make your own:

  • Paintbrush
  • Woven Placemats (These ones are great)
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Water

DIY Watercolor PlacematsPour your paint colors out onto a paper plate, plastic container, or anything that can hold a little bit of water.

DIY Watercolor PlacematsDIY Watercolor PlacematsDip your paintbrush into the water and then mix the excess water into your paint. You are creating a watercolor type of effect. (I did one color at a time as I worked my way around the placemat, just rinsing off the brush in the water between colors).

DIY Watercolor PlacematsUsing your paintbrush and the acrylic paint that you’ve mixed with water, begin painting a pattern around the edge of your placemats. I just did brush strokes on mine, but you can do lines, zig zags, dots, or anything you like! (The more watery your paint is, the lighter the color will appear on your placemats).

DIY Watercolor PlacematsDIY Watercolor PlacematsWork your way around the placemats, alternating your paint colors to fill in the edges. Finish it off by filling in any empty spots, until your pattern goes all the way around.

DIY Watercolor PlacematsAllow the placemats to dry completely before use.

However you decide to use them, they will add the perfect pop of color to your table to finish out all of that Summer entertaining and prep you for fall!
