Our Charlotte Renovation Design Inspiration

Charlotte Renovation Design InspirationIf you guys have been following along over on Instagram, you’ve probably seen a few behind the scene snippets of some of the projects we started tackling at the new house, but before we dive head first into all of the big plans, I wanted to share our Charlotte renovation design inspiration with you!

I’ve always loved interior design. I thoroughly enjoy pairing items together, playing around with layouts, and scouring stores and the internet in search of the perfect piece for a room.

My design style definitely doesn’t fall into one specific category. Rather, I’m probably a pretty good mix of a few different types. A little bit modern and a little bit contemporary, with some mid-century and eclectic thrown in. Generally, I just buy things I love and go from there, but in this new house I have another person (and their design style) to consider. That other person, being Josh, who has a COMPLETELY different style than I do.

Josh leans more towards a rustic style. He loves natural wood, rugged textures, simple colors, and warmth. And did I mention deer antlers? He likes those too.

The challenge with our Charlotte renovation design inspiration is that I needed to find a way to blend both styles together, while keeping things cohesive and complimentary. I’m planning to infuse some natural elements into the design, along with some more modern selections to keep things from looking too rustic. I did, however, agree to one set of deer antlers, so I’m working on a way to modernize those a bit too. Ha.

We’re planning to stick to a very neutral color palette for the bones of the space. White, gray, natural wood tones and textures, and pops of black to add that modern touch. We’re keeping some of our existing furniture, but adding some new pieces to the house, and I’m desperately working to fit alllll of my art into the new house too, despite Josh’s lack of enthusiasm. (We have VERY different tastes when it comes to art. I’m working on him….slowly).

We have a very long list of projects for our Charlotte renovation (which you can read more about here) and once we’re done, we’re aiming for the finished product to look a lot like the photos below, that I collected from a few of my fave interior designers.

We’re currently trying to decide on a direction for the new stairs, but I’m loving the natural wood stair treads and risers here. And that black light fixture is a dream too.

These chairs! That lamp! The wall hanging! Love this whole room.

These black doors paired with the neutral wood floors are giving me all the design feels.

Although a screened in patio and a new deck aren’t on the docket until phase 3, I’m still dreaming about a dark and moody vibe with all the plants.

I love the railings on this banister. And the vintage details on those doors are amaze.

Although we’re going to keep the existing cabinetry in the house to save some money in the budget, these wooden cabinets are stunning, especially when paired with black hardware.

You had me at black kitchen fixtures.

This bedroom is the perfect blend of masculine and feminine. I’m also trying to talk myself out of buying these exact same table lamps for our new master bedroom. They are verrry spendy, but I’m obsessed.

I will never say no to a waterfall island and love how clean and bright this kitchen looks. The black lights and the wooden bar stool legs lend the perfect amount of color to the space.

The black built-in cabinet is a dream paired with this stone fireplace, and those leather ottomans look like something Josh would actually approve of. 😉

I’m trying to find a way to incorporate a black wall or two into the new house. I love the juxtaposition of the dark wall with the white cabinets.

I’m definitely planning to add some darker hues in certain spots and have a few different plans for some fun wallpaper too, which I can’t wait to share. My eclectic side tends to come out in the decor I choose, so expect to see some fun and unexpected elements show up too!

Can’t wait to share more of our Charlotte renovation design inspiration with you guys as more elements start to come together.
